↗What Happened
Users will now be able to access AI Mode via a new dedicated shortcut button under the search bar when opening a "New Tab" page in Chrome.
Our Take
A button in the right place isn't a feature. Google's treating AI Mode like a power-up instead of accepting it's just search with extra steps. The button helps, sure—one tap vs. three—but it's theater. They're making AI feel more magical by making it easier to access.
The real story? Google can't defend search anymore so they're adding buttons to make it seem like they're innovating. This is what desperation in the search business looks like.
What To Do
This doesn't change whether you use AI Mode; it just makes the default look newer.
