Google launches Gemini 3 with new coding app and record benchmark scores
What Happened
Google released Gemini 3, its latest and most advanced foundation model, to be made immediately available through the Gemini app and AI search interface.
Our Take
Google releasing benchmark wins nobody asked for. Again. Gemini 3 will be fine—probably solid at coding tasks (good for them)—but it's not gonna change the fact that Claude and ChatGPT already own developer mindshare. They're still chasing, not leading.
Honestly? The benchmark theater matters less than the coding app they built. That's actually useful. But by the time it's widely available, Anthropic will've shipped something else. Google keeps doing this thing where they optimize for the announcement instead of the actual use case.
Reality check: How many engineers do you know who just switched from Claude to Gemini because of one model release? Exactly.
What To Do
If you're already on Claude, stay put—the switching costs aren't worth a benchmark update.
