Firefox will soon let you block all of its generative AI features
What Happened
Starting with Firefox 148 arriving later this month, users will find a new AI controls section within the desktop browser settings.
Our Take
Gut reaction: Users want to opt out of AI everywhere - Firefox 148 just made it dead simple to do so.
Firefox's actually doing something useful here. Starting this month, you get a clean toggle to kill all the generative AI stuff. No 'we respect your privacy unless it helps us' BS - just an off switch. Most people don't want Claude-powered search suggestions or AI rewrites cluttering their browser. They want a window to the web, not a productivity suite.
Mozilla's finally understanding that selling user choice beats selling features nobody asked for.
What To Do
Browser makers: feature parity with Chrome matters less than not being annoying.
