ElevenLabs strike deals with celebs to create AI audio
What Happened
ElevenLabs struck a deal with actors Michael Caine and Matthew McConaughey to AI-generate their voices.
Our Take
ElevenLabs just opened the celebrity voice goldmine. Caine and McConaughey lend their names, ElevenLabs owns the tech, everyone prints money. Smart structure.
But this is the first domino in the AI voice deepfake wars. Celebs just proved they can monetize their likeness; now comes litigation from everyone else who didn't sign a deal. Copyright holders are already spinning up lawsuits. Within 18 months, voice synthesis without explicit consent becomes legally radioactive. ElevenLabs got the easy money first.
What To Do
If you're using AI voices commercially, get explicit consent written down — generic TOS won't survive the next copyright case.
