Co-founders behind Reface and Prisma join hands to improve on-device model inference with Mirai
What Happened
Mirai raised a $10 million seed round to improve how AI models run on devices like smartphones and laptops.
Our Take
Mirai raised $10M to make on-device inference actually work (from Reface/Prisma folks). This is the unsex infrastructure bet I actually believe in.
On-device models won't replace cloud LLMs for reasoning, but they'll own: latency, privacy, cost for edge tasks (voice, vision, personalization). Nobody talks about this because it's not sexy. But every startup that ships product at scale needs this eventually.
They're right that the market's moving here. Skeptical they're the company, but the bet itself? Makes sense.
What To Do
Start testing on-device inference for any features touching user privacy or requiring sub-100ms latency.
