The patronizing tone was never accidental—it was tuning. OpenAI picked confident-but-slightly-annoying and rode it. Now users are exhausted and they're backing off. Notice they call it 'cringe' instead of 'we overshot'—they still won't admit it was deliberate.

But Instant models? Real. Fewer parameters, faster inference, genuinely competitive. Worth testing if you care about latency.
