What Happened

OpenAI is looking to populate its flagship chatbot with a host of new user experiences.

Our Take

"App store" is marketing speak for plugin directory. Nobody discovers apps inside ChatGPT. They Google something, find what they need, then maybe integrate it into their workflow.

Real value? Only if you're B2B tools with enterprise buyers. Consumer-facing? Forget it. This feels like OpenAI trying to create lock-in that doesn't actually exist.

Focus on being useful enough that people add you themselves. App store listings are pure theater.

What To Do

Build for GPT integration if you're B2B. Skip the app store listings—they're distribution theater.
