Amazon halts Blue Jay robotics project after less than 6 months

What Happened

Amazon said Blue Jay's core tech will be used for other robotics projects and the employees who worked on it were moved to other projects.

Our Take

Six months is brutal. Amazon's not a company that kills robotics projects lightly—they've got Digit, they've got warehouse automation. Blue Jay must've had a fundamental problem (scalability, cost, tech readiness) that six months couldn't fix.

What kills me is the spin: 'tech will be used for other projects.' That's code for 'we're salvaging IP and moving on.' The robot didn't work. Period.

Hardware startups that lose corporate backing evaporate fast. This kills momentum.

What To Do

If you're in robotics and gunning for Amazon contracts, remember: they don't wait. Your tech needs to work at scale in 90 days or it's dead.
