Alexa+, Amazon’s AI assistant, is now available to everyone in the US
What Happened
Amazon opens Alexa+ to everyone in the U.S. The AI feature is free for Prime members across devices, and free for everyone on mobile and web.
Our Take
Free for Prime, free on mobile, free for everyone? They don't know how to monetize this yet.
Compare to ChatGPT's $20/mo or enterprise Gemini pricing. Amazon's choosing volume over revenue, betting Prime stickiness matters more than AI margins. Maybe they're right. But Alexa's been the joke for years — worse at reasoning than ChatGPT, still clunky for smart home. This just makes the gap more visible.
Look: free tier only makes sense if you're building ecosystem lock-in, not profit.
What To Do
Use ChatGPT Plus or Claude instead; Alexa's only valuable for smart home commands.
