What Happened

Adobe Firefly is getting a new feature called Quick Cut that uses AI to edit footage to create a first draft of the final video based on user instructions.

Our Take

Look, Quick Cut is exactly what Adobe should've built—rough cuts from footage in seconds. But here's the thing: video editing's 80% taste, 20% mechanics. You'll still need a human picking shots, pacing, music. What Adobe's really selling is "faster tedium," not better outcomes. The value's there for stock footage shops and YouTube creators on deadline. But don't call this "video editing AI." It's assembly-line automation. Smart move for their margin, though—once creators are in Firefly, upselling to After Effects gets cheaper.

What To Do

If you're doing high-volume short-form content, Quick Cut could save 3-4 hours per video; test it on 5 pieces first.
